Jatiya Party (JP) has decided to act as the main opposition party in the 11th parliament.
“As the chairman of the party, I’m informing our leaders, workers and supporters of all levels as well as the countrymen that the Jatiya Party will perform as the main opposition in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad (JS),” Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad said in a statement today.
Ershad said he will act as the leader of the opposition in parliament ex-officio as he is the chief of the party, while party’s Co-chairman Golam Mohammad Quader will perform as the deputy leader.
“No lawmakers of the party will be inducted in the cabinet of the new government,” he said, requesting the JS Speaker to take necessary step in this regard.
In the December 30 polls, the Awami League-led Grand Alliance secured 288 seats, of which JP, a key component of the alliance, bagged 22 seats.
