The National Voters’ Day 1st March 2019 was observed here today for the first time as elsewhere in the country with the theme of ‘Will be Voter, Will Vote’ to create awareness among voters about their voting rights.
The Rangpur Regional Office of the Election Commission with assistance
of the Divisional Commissioner’s Office chalked programmes like bringing out
of a rally followed by discussion marking the day.
The divisional and district level government officials, students,
youths, representatives of NGOs, socio-cultural, professional and human
rights organisations, civil society members participated in the rally that
paraded the main city streets.
Later, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari attended the post-
rally discussion held at his conference room as the chief guest with Rangpur
Regional Election Officer GM Sahatab Uddin in the chair.
Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya,
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy
Commissioner Enamul Habib, Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hasan, Acting
District Election Officer Kamrul Islam, addressed as special guests.
The speakers thanked the present government to launch observance of the
day aiming at inspiring youths to become voters and exercise their voting
rights to infuse democratic culture in them for nurturing democracy and
strengthening democratic rights.
The chief guest urged the officials concerned for ensuring enlistment of every new voter and creating mass public awareness so that every voter would come to the polling centres for casting their votes to strengthening democracy in the country.
