The devastating city fire that broke out at FR Tower on Kamal Ataturk Avenue in city’s Banani area today was brought under control, police said.
“The fire was brought under control at about 6 pm,” officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station Farman Ali confirmed BSS. A 15 to 20-member team of Bangladesh Army has entered the building for finding out survivors, he said. At least two people were killed and 34 others injured in the fire, police said.
The fire broke out at around 12:55 pm at the eighth floor of the FR Tower
but reason behind the fire is yet to be known, Fire Service Control Room Duty
Officer (acting) Enayet Hossain told BSS.
After about five-hour of frantic efforts, 21 units of the fire service
brought the inferno under control. Besides, separate teams of Bangladesh
Army, Bangladesh Air Force, Navy and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) assisted
the fire service men to douse the fire and intensify the rescue operation to
recover the victims from the spot.
Three helicopters of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) were used to rescue the
trapped people from inside the building.
