A case has been filed against actress Shomi Kaiser for reportedly tarnishing the image of journalists calling them ‘thieves’ during a programme at the Jatiya Press Club on April 24.
Editor of online news portal studentjournalbd.com Mia Md Nuzhatul Hasan filed the case.
Judge of the Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Asaduzzaman Nur took cognisance of the complaint and ordered the officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to submit a report on June 16 after investigation.
Shomi called journalists ‘thieves’ and her security guards also used abusive words against them during a programme at Jahur Hossian Chowdhury auditorium of the press club on April 24 after she claimed that her two cell phones were stolen.

She also kept all the journalists captive for around 30 minutes to search them after locking the main entrance of the auditorium.
The video footage of the event went viral on social media which humiliated and defamed the journalist community.
Later, it was proved from the video footage taken by journalists that the phones were taken away by a worker of the cake-supplying company.
