The family of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who was killed earlier, today expressed gratefulness to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the verdict of Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal sentencing former officer in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain to eight years in jail.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier assured us of justice in the Nusrat murder case and her assurance came into reality today. We are satisfied over the verdict,” Nusrat’s mother Shirin Akhter told reporters here in her immediate reaction to the court’s verdict.
“I want to express my gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and judiciary as well. I thanked media personnel too,” she said.
Today, Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal in its maiden judgment in a case lodged under Digital Security Act sentenced OC of Sonagazi Moazzem Hossain to eight years in prison.
The tribunal also penalised him Taka 15 lakh in a case related to Nusrat’s killing.
On April 15 last, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman lodged the case against Moazzem under the Digital Security Act for illegally recording Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s statement on video and spreading it online.
