A delegation of judges of the High Court Division and the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain paid a courtesy call on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this evening.

During the meeting, the Chief Justice formally invited the President to attend the discussion on the occasion of ‘Supreme Court Day 2019’ on Bangladesh Supreme Court premises slated for December 18, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS after the meeting.

The head of the state said just after the independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established the Supreme Court, the apex court of the country, to ensure justice for people.

“It (SC) formally started its function on December 18 in 1972 . . . since its inception the Supreme Court is playing a very significant role in ensuring justice, protecting human rights and establishing rule of law,” President Hamid added.

Abdul Hamid hoped that the SC would continue its efforts to ensure the fundamental human rights in the days ahead. Secretaries concerned to the President were also present during the meeting.
