The Cabinet today gave final approval to the draft of “‘The Electoral Rolls (Amendment) Act 2019 ” extending the timeframe for one more month to update the voter list. The cabinet gave the approval in a weekly meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office here with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
“The Cabinet today gave final approval to “The Electoral Rolls (Amendment) Act 2019″ for increasing the timeframe from January 2 to March 1 to update the voter list,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told a press briefing at the Secretariat here this afternoon.
He added: amendment has been made to the existing law of 2009 aimed at increasing the timeframe as it was difficult to update the voter list within the existing 29 days from January 1 to January 31. The meeting also decided to observe March 2 as the National Voters’ Day which was earlier observed on March 1, he said.
The cabinet secretary said the meeting also approved the draft of “The National Agriculture Mechanization Policy-2019” to help the farmers buy agricultural inputs at reasonable prices and get soft loan with low and no interest rate.
He went on saying the policy will help to expand the areas of agriculture mechanization and decrease the production cost as it requires less workers. The Cabinet Secretary said the policy will also open the commercial potential of agriculture.
The meeting has suggested to include cooperative system in production and marketing of the agricultural products. The Cabinet also approved the proposal of announcing the “National Insurance Day (Jatiyo Bima Dibosh)” on March 1 every year and observing the day in a befitting manner to make it familiar to the grassroots people.
The Cabinet Secretary said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had introduced the insurance industry in the country after the independence of Bangladesh. The meeting thus decided to observe the National Insurance Day on March 1 as Bangabandhu joined an insurance company on March 1 in 1960. To boost the industry Bangabandhu formulated “Bangladesh Insurance Nationalization Order 1972 and Insurance Cooperation Act 1973”.
