40-member team to nab a journalist surprises HC

Online Desk ; The High Court on Sunday expressed surprise over the jail term of Kurigram journalist Ariful Islam by a mobile court. An HC bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir also said, “A team of 40 went to the Journalist’s home at midnight to catch him.. its a huge issue.”

The bench expressed the surprise after hearing a writ petition challenging the legality of the conviction of Kurigram journalist Ariful Islam by a mobile court.

The court also set Monday to deliver its order on the writ.

Earlier on Saturday midnight, soon after picking Ariful up from his residence, a district mobile court sentenced him to one year imprisonment in a drug case.

The court awarded Ariful the jail term on charge of possessing half a bottle of liquor and 150 grams of hemp from his house.
