Virus claims lives of two more cops

Online Desk : Two more police members died of coronavirus in the capital on Wednesday night. The deceased are ASI Abdul Khaleque,36, of DMP’s Police Order Management (POM), and constable Asheque Mahmood,42, worked in Uttara area under DMP’s Traffic Division (North zone).

The ASI hailed from Betagi upazila of Barguna district and the constable from Melandaha of Jalampur. Departments concerned confirmed the deaths.

POM joint commissioner Abdul Maleque told media that ASI Abdul Khaleque had been in institutional quarantine at a hotel in Arambagh area after coronavirus symptoms developed in his body. He tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.

Abdul Khaleque, father of three children, was found unconscious in the hotel room on Wednesday night. The ASI was whisked off to a hospital where doctors declared him dead at about 12:15am.

Meanwhile, DMP Traffic’s assistant commissioner (admin) Badrul Hasan Asheque Mahmud died at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital at 9:30pm on Wednesday.

He was found corona positive on April 27 and kept in institutional quarantine. Asheque was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday following deterioration of his condition. Earlier on Tuesday night, constable Jasim Uddin of the city’s Wari Police Outpost died of deadly coronavirus at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
