The government has commuted sentences of 33 inmates, said jail superintendent Gias Uddin.
He said the government has decided to commute the sentence of the convicts for their minor crimes to fight against the spread of the virus.
The Home Affairs Ministry has recently decided to release around 2,884 prisoners from jail across the country who were serving jail terms from six months to one year and three to six months to avoid the risk of virus transmission.
Jail authorities had received a letter on Saturday to release 33 prisoners form the jail, the official added.
