Arrested 17 JMB men sent to jail

Online Desk : Seventeen operatives of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), arrested during their bid to go to Saudi Arabia, have been sent to jail following a court order.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari passed the order on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier, police produced them before the court and pleaded to keep them behind bars until the completion of investigation in
the cased filed against them under anti-terrorism act.

The arrested persons are: Haider Ali, 44, Mahmudul Hasan alias Masum, Jamirul Islam, 24, Billal Hossain, 38, Sheikh Arafat alias Jony, 48, Imrul Hasan alias Emon, 25, Saiful Islam, 25, Mozammel Haque, 33, Shah Jalal, 34, Akteruzzaman, 30, Mahmudul Hasain alias Sabbir, 23, Abid Ul Mahmud alias Abid, 22, Sohail Sarder, 33, Obaidul Islam alias Sumon, 30, Mahmud Hasan alias Sharif, 18, Mazedul Islam alias Mukul, 28, and Sohag Hasan, 20.

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the militants from Kakrail Masjid area in the capital. They had gathered there to make Hijrat (migration) to Saudi Arabia in the guise of Tabligh Jamaat member.

The CTTC unit recovered 19 mobile phones, Tk 2.34 lakh in cash and US Dollar 922 from their possessions. Police later filed a case under anti-terrorism act with Ramna Police Station.
