11 monkeys ‘killed by poisoning’ in Madaripur

The incident took place at Ward No. 9 of Charmuguria area under Madaripur municipality on Tuesday afternoon. However, locals buried the monkeys beside a canal in the area.
Local people said Charmuguria area, surrounded by the Arial Kha river, is full of forest and fruit trees. The monkeys have been living here for centuries.
The area was said to had a population of about 10,000 monkeys before the liberation war, they said.
According to information of the district forest department, some 2,500 monkeys are still living in the area.
They often come out to localities in search of food and people used to feed them, said Madraipur Unnayan Sangram Parishad convener Masud Parvez.
No one has ever killed monkeys before. Now, some inhuman people poisoned them to death, Masud said.
He demanded exemplary punishment of those culprits.
However, the district forest department acting officer Taposh Kumar Gupta did not received the phone despite several times calling in this regard, our local correspondent said.
