Amphan causes Tk 2.25 crore damage to Sundarbans

Online desk : The super cyclone ‘Amphan’ that battered the country’s coastal areas in the night of May 20 caused a madage of over Tk 2.25 crore to the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest and a Unesco world heritage site.

Four commottees, formed to assess the losses caused by the cyclone in the Sundarbans, mentioned the figure in their reports. Bagerhat’s East Sundarbans DFO M Belayet Hossain and Khulna’s West Sundarbans DFO Bashir Al Mamun confirmed the matter.

According to the reports submitted on Sunday, although Amphan slammed the coastal districts for eight hours, it did not cause huge damage.

Bengal tigers and other wild animales did not suffer any harm by the cyclone. The reports said some 12,332 geoa and garan were uprooted in the West Sundarbans while only 25 trees damaged in the East Sundarbans that worth Tk 11.45 lakh.
