Zebra gives birth to baby at Bangabandhu Safari Park in Gazipur

Online Desk : A zebra has given birth to a baby at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur. The newly-born baby is a female zebra. With this the number of zebras at the park has stood at 20. Earlier, two zebra babies were born at the park on May 28 and April 14 last.
Though the baby was born in the morning on June 14, the park authorities have disclosed it today (Saturday) for safety reasons.
Wildlife inspector Sarwar Hossain at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park said some zebras were brought from abroad for the entertainment of visitors at the beginning of setting up the park. As the animals have adapted themselves to the local environment easily, the zebras have been giving birth to babies over the last five years regularly. With the newborn baby, the number of zebras has stood at 20 at the park. Of them, 8 are male and 12 female. The newborn baby and her mother are now well. Apart from grass, the mother is being fed gram, carrot and husk.
He further said zebras belong to horse genus. They are mammals that are native to Africa. Zebras have distinctive white and black stripes. They are very social animals and roam in small groups. It usually becomes 8 feet in length and 300 kg in weight.
Tabibur Rahman, Acting Officer of the Safari Park, said different foreign species of wild animals have been giving birth to babies at the Safari Park under special observations.
He said the number of zebras has been increasing constantly. As a result, the Safari Park will become self-sufficient and will be able to supply animals to other entertainment centres of the country.
