Online Desk ; Locals in Kamalnagar upazila of Laxmipur district on Monday formed a human chain against ‘exorbitant’ electricity bills distributed by the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS).

Dozens of people formed the human chain on the Ramgati-Laxmipur regional highway at 10.00am maintaining social distancing rule.

PBS clients—Arman Hossain, Sahab Uddin Rinku, Sajjad Hossain Saju, Najimur Rahman Fahad, Amjad Hossain Bijoy, Sihab Uddin Rupok and Mehedi Hasan Rakib—among others, spoke the programme.

The speakers alleged that officials of Laxmipur Palli Bidyut Samity are preparing the electricity bills without checking the metres. Irregularities were found in the bills for the months of February-March in comparison with the bills of April-June months.

Palli Bidyut Samity also fined its clients during this pandemic for due bills violating government order, they said. Later, agitators submitted a memorandum to UNO Mohammad Mubarak Hossain seeking steps to relieve from the irregularities of Palli Bidyut Samity’s extra bill charge.
