‘Drug trader’ killed in Savar ‘gunfight’

Online desk ; A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, on Monday morning.

Deceased Raihan Sarkar, 35, hailed from North Matlab Police Station area of Chandpur district. He was an accused in a number of drug cases filed with different police station, said RAB.

RAB sources said on information that Raihan was staying at one Mosharraf Hossain’s house at Ashulia’s Kabirpur area, a team of elite force raided the house this morning.

Sensing the presence of the force, Raihan opened fire on RAB members, forcing them to fire back in self-defence. Raihan was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.

RAB-2 police super Mohiuddin Faruqi said the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue. Two members of RAB also received injury during the encounter.
