Private sector offer COVID-19 treatment in Chattogram

Two private diagnostic centres–Chevron and Imperial Hospital– have already started testing COVID samples. These have the capacity of testing 100 samples a day.
Chevron is going to import another PCR machine for testing samples which will raise its testing capacity to 400 per day.
When contacted, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram told the Daily Observer that two more private institutions– Epic Health Centre and Ma O Shishu Hospital– have applied for diagnosis of COVID-19 samples.
The civil surgeon said the diagnostic capacity of the private sector would be raised to 1,000 samples per day in the coming month of July.
“The private institutions have been importing testing kits directly from China at their own initiatives. So, there is no problem of the public sector for testing kits privately,” he added.
Besides, the five testing laboratories in public sector have been testing more than 1,000 samples a day, Fazle Rabbi confirmed.
Meanwhile, 12 private hospitals have also come forward in providing treatment to COVID 19 patients in Chattogram which include Park View Hospital, Medical Centre, Imperial Hospital, Surgiscope Hospital, Delta Hospital, CSTC Hospital, CSCR Hospital, National Hospital, Asian Hospital, Well Hospital, Max Hospital and Metropolitan Hospital.
Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told the Daily Observer that a total of 81 COVID patients, 398 suspected patients and 35 critical ICU patients had been admitted to 12 private hospitals for treatment.
The civil surgeon said the private sector has been carrying out treatment for majority of the COVID-19 patients in Chattogram.
Chattogram has witnessed a record number of COVID 19 patients on June 23 last. A total of 280 patients tested positive on the day. It was the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases in Chattogram since March last.
Besides, the total numbers of COVID-19 positive have crossed 7500 on Saturday. After June 23, the numbers of COVID positive tests have started to decline.
According to local civil surgeon office, on June 24, the Chattogram tested 240 positive patients. On Friday, a total of 159 have been tested positive in Chattogram while on Thursday it was 246. So, on Friday, the numbers have declined below 200 daily.
