Flood worsens in Lalmonirhat

Online Desk : The flood situation of Lalmonirhat has worsened as water level of the two main rivers –Teesta and Dharla— is flowing over the danger level.

According to the Water Development Board, Dharla registered a sharp rise and is flowing 64 cm above the danger level at 9 am on Monday while it was flowing 46cm above the danger level at the same time on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the water of Teesta river is flowing 30cm above the danger level at 12 noon today.

Continuous rain in last few days has worsened the flood situation in the district, increasing the sufferings to the people.

Farmers in the low-lying and char areas have become frustrated failing to protect their crops.

The district administration promised to distribute relief. But, no food assistance or aid reached in most of the flood-hit places, alleged the affected people.

Deputy Commissioner Abu Zafar said the list of flood-affected people is being prepared and distribution of relief will start soon.

After the flood of last week, second phrase of flood this week put around one lakh people living on the banks of rivers Teesta-Dharla into trouble.
