Online Desk : Bangladesh’s image has been badly tarnished in the world due to fake coronavirus certificates, alleged BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He made the allegation at a virtual press conference organised by BNP Corona Cell in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.
Fakhrul said corruption in the country’s health sector takes a devastating turn during the human disaster of coronavirus pandemic. When different global health agencies including the World Health Organization (WHO) have been insisting on constant coronavirus testing, some government blessed fraudsters have issued fake COVID-19 negative certificates.
He said Sahed’s Regent Hospital and Arif-Sabrina’s JKG Health Care issued thousands of coronavirus negative certificates in favour of expatriate Bangladeshis without testing their samples. “It has not only pushed Bangladesh to high rate of infection, but also tarnished the image of Bangladesh in the rest of the world,” he said.
The BNP leader said Bangladeshi passengers had to face great embrassment at several countries due to carrying fake coronavirus negative certificates. “Several countries have stopped allowing flights from Bangladesh following the detection of coronavirus infection among the passengers afer crossing the Bangladesh airports. The countries which imposed ban on travel from Bangladesh temporarily included Italy, Japan, South Korea and China,” he said.
Fakhrul said announcement of suspending flights from Dhaka by different countries is not only a problem of expatriate Bangladeshis. Rather, foreign investment and international trade are closely associated with it. “It’ll have a very serious negative impact,” he observed.
The BNP leader said almost all the countries of the world have taken strict cautionary measures in the wake of coronavirus infection. Many countries have shown significant success in bringing the coronavirus situation under their control through leadership and management. “Unfortunately, Bangladesh has failed to do so,” he said.
