Ferry operation on Shimulia-Kathalbari route resumes

Online Desk ; Ferry operations along the Shimulia-Kathalbari riverine route have resumed after remaining suspended for eight days due to the poor navigability in the river Padma.

BIWTC’s Shimulia landing point’s assistant general manager Md Shafiqul Islam said three ferries left Shimulia ghat on Friday after on experimental basis.

Plying of ferries on the route has been disrupted over the last several months due to poor navigability and strong current in the river. Several ferries were used for the private cars for crossing the river. On September 3, the ferry operations were completely suspended.

Shafiqul Islam said Camellia, Kakoli and Bir Sreshta Jahangir Ro-Ro ferries left Shimulia for Kathalbari point on Friday afternoon. It brought a great sigh of relief among passengers and vehicle drivers.
