Country reports 34 more deaths from COVID-19

Online desk ; With the deaths of 34 more people in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Friday, Bangladesh’s COVID-19 death count now stands at 4,668.

During this timeline, 1,792 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 3.34,762.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the matter through a press release signed by Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of DGHS, on Friday afternoon.

Health authorities also reported 2,474 more recoveries in a day, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,36,024.

Among the newly deceased, 25 were men and nine women. Of them, 19 in Dhaka, five in Chattogram, one in Rajshahi, three in Khulna, two in Barisal, one in Sylhet, and three in Rangpur divisions.

In the last 24 hours, 94 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 14,961 samples and tested 14,747.

With this, a total of 17,04,758 samples were tested in the country.

The latest day’s infection rate is 12.15 per cent, compared to the sample tested, while the overall infection rate is 19.64.

Till now, the recovery rate is 70.51 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.39 per cent.

As of today, a total of 3,638 men (77.93 per cent) and 1,030 women (22.07 per cent) died of the deadly virus in the country.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18. According to Worldometer’s COVID-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 9,14,309 people globally and infected 2,83,55,672 as of Friday afternoon.
