Online Desk : The government for the first time has created cadre posts for the technical institutions as part of its move to promote technical education for creating skilled manpower to meet its growing demand at home and abroad.
“A total of 1,061 cadre posts have been created for 49 polytechnic institutes to ensure quality education and promote job-oriented education,” additional secretary of Technical and Madrasah Education Division Dr Md Omar Faruque told BSS on Friday.
He said the move came as part of the government’s priority to promote technical and vocational education to create skilled manpower for the present job markets at home and abroad.
Omar Faruque said the government has undertaken a project to establish a technical school and college in every upazila while the work on establishing 100 new technical institutions is underway.
Currently, there are 113 government technical education institutes — 49 polytechnic institutes and 64 technical colleges — and 4,727 other private institutes in the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has recently given her consent to a proposal for the creation of 1,061 permanent cadre posts in the revenue sector for the technical institutes, said sources at the Prime Minister’s Office.
To lessen the acute manpower crisis in technical educational institutions, the government has created some 12,607 posts – 1,061 cadre posts and 11,546 non-cadre posts — to recruit huge manpower for the 113 technical schools and colleges and polytechnic institutes.
The cadre posts are being created under five categories for the 49 polytechnic institutes under the Technical and Madrasa Education Division.
Among the posts, there are 20 vice principal posts (Grade-5 in the national pay-scale, 2015), while 169 chief instructors (technical) (Grade-6), 57 chief instructors (non-technical) (Grade-6), 510 instructors (technical) (Grade-9) and 305 instructors (non-technical) (Grade-9).
Omar Faruque said the recruitment against some 12,000 posts will be made in three fiscal years – 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23.
The government is creating the posts to address acute manpower crisis in the schools and colleges as the institutes are now run with one-third of required manpower, he said, adding that the teaching standard and enrollment rates are expected to rise following the recruitment in the posts.
All the necessary processes have already been completed to issue the government order creating the huge number of posts for the 113 government institutes.
The initiative will have positive impacts on overseas employment of Bangladeshi workers and inflow of remittance as there is high demand of skilled workers in the foreign countries, said Omar Faruque.
Earlier, the Public Administration Ministry approved a proposal for creation of total 13,072 posts (1,244 cadre posts permanently and 12,728 non-cadre posts temporary basis). Later, the Finance Division agreed to create 12,607 posts (1,061 cadre posts and 11,546 non-cadre posts) in the revenue sector. The Finance Division has also fixed the salary scales for the posts.
