Farida Yasmin, Ilyas Khan elected as Jatiya Press Club president, secy

Farida Yasmin bagged 581 votes while her rival Kamal Uddin Sabuj secured 395 votes for the post of president. Besides, Ilyas Khan got 566 votes for the post of general secretary while his nearest rival Omar Faruque bagged 393 votes.
Other office bearers are senior vice president Hasan Hafij, vice president Rejowanul Haque Raja, joint general secretary Maeenul Alam, treasurer Shahed Chowdhury, members Ayub Bhuyian, Jahiduzzaman Faruque, Bhanuranjan Chakrabarty, Rahman Mustafij, Rejanur Rahman, Shahnaj Siddiqi Suma, Syed Abdal Ahmed, Kazi Rauna Hossain, Bakhtier Rana and Shahnaj Begum Poly.
Two panels led by Farida Yasmin-Omar Faruque Parishad and Sabuj-Ilyas Parishad contested in the election for the 2021-22 tenure. A total of 34 candidates of these two panels joined the election for 17 posts of the committee.
Besides, seven more candidates outside the panels contested for several posts.
Jatiya Press Club’s present general secretary Farida Yasmin and former secretary general of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Omar Faruque contested for the posts of president and general secretary respectively from the Farida Yasmin-Omar Faruque Parishad.
Jatiya Press Club’s former president Kamal Uddin Sabuj and former joint general secretary Ilyas Khan are contested for the posts of president and general secretary respectively from Sabuj-Ilyas Parishad.
The 23rd biennial general meeting of the club was held at its auditorium on Wednesday.
