8 get life term for killing shopkeeper in Kurigram

Online desk ; A court on Monday sentenced eight people to life term imprisonment for killing a grocery shopkeeper in Chilmari upazila of Kurigram district in 2004.
The district and sessions judge Abdul Mannan handed down the verdict in the afternoon.
The lifers are Rashed Miah, 22, Mokbul Hossain, 35, Taslim Uddin, 32, Moslem Uddin, Abdul Kader, 25, Mintu Miah, 23, Monal Uddin, 25, and Nuru Miah.
Another accused Chand Miah, 40, died during the trial.
Public prosecutor advocate SM Abraham Lincoln confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, shopkeeper Nur Nabi of Kanchkhul village and Moslem Uddin of Soroktari village had been at loggerheads over irrigating in a land since 2003.
Moslem and his cohorts had threatened Nur Nabi to life during the feud.
Later, Moslem’s younger brother Rashed developed a friendship with Nur Nabi and used to sleep at his shop regularly.
On January 22 in 2004, Rashed went to the shop at night as usual but relatives found the hanging body of Nur Nabi in the shop on the next day.
Mokhlesur Rahman, father of the victim, filed a case with Chilmari Police Station accusing nine people.
