Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP is ashamed to join Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tea party because of the party’s massive defeat in the December 30 national election.
“There will be no benefit of being ashamed of . . . it is the outcome of their deeds. They committed nomination business, refrained from electioneering and did not even put posters (in the election). . .they are now suffering for such acts,” he told a discussion at Jatiya Press Club VIP lounge here.
Bangladesh Awami Motor Drivers’ League arranged the discussion marking its 15th founding anniversary with its president Md Ali Hossain in the chair.
Mahmud, also Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary, lamented that it was normal behavior as BNP kept Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina standing outside of their office, boycotted dialogue proposals anomalously and even they would not respond to invitation of tea party.
The AL leader called upon the motor vehicle drivers and the common people to remain alert so that those who killed people in arson attacks cannot go to power.
“When Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave directives to the motor drivers to take rest in daytime after driving in night, BNP-Jamaat clique killed more than 100 drivers in arson attacks,” he said.
Mahmud said the people can by no means accept those who carried out brutal acts like killing innocent CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver in Chattogram and setting parked trucks on fire.
He also appreciated the contribution of motor vehicle drivers to the economy and the transport sector.
The minister urged BNP to shun the path of conspiracy and cooperate with the government in taking ahead the country.
