Academics and researchers at a meeting here today unequivocally called for quality assurance in higher education for
overall development of the country through facing the existing challenges.
They mentioned that quality assurance can be the vital means of
transforming the young generation into worthy citizens coupled with
curtailing the gradually mounting burden of unemployment.
They came up with the observation while addressing a discussion titled
“Stepping towards Accreditation: Sharing of Views” at Senate Building of
Rajshahi University (RU) today.
RU Quality Assurance Cell hosted the meeting where aspects of quality
improvement in higher education were discussed elaborately.
Chairman of Bangladesh Accreditation Council Professor Mejbah Uddin Ahmed
and RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan addressed the discussion as chief
and special guests respectively with Director of the Cell Prof Abu Bakar
Ismail in the chair.
RU Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha and Prof Chowdhury Jakaria
spoke on the occasion as guests of honour.
The meeting was told that 61 universities in country adopted quality
assurance related project with the main demand of ensuring standard of
education and research leading to ensuring job of the graduates in both
domestic and international markets.
The discussants told the meeting that large numbers of students are
receiving education in 133 universities in the country. More than eight lakh
of them are coming out as graduates every year.
In Bangladesh, there is no scope of job opportunities for the huge
graduates. So, they are being compelled to humming towards international job
markets.
In this context, they mentioned if quality improvement in higher education
were not assured properly the graduates will not access to the job markets in
home and abroad.
To mitigate the odd situation, the quality assurance project has been adopted. Authorities of all the universities concerned should discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty so that the targeted students could
derive total benefits of the project as a whole, they added.
