Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said the present government would provide all necessary assistance to institutionalise pro bono, a Latin expression, meaning ‘for the public good’ service in the country.
“We need to maintain our livelihood but we have forgotten about pro bono service while doing this. It is a praiseworthy initiative and we would do everything necessary to institutionalise it,” he said.
The minister said these while addressing a seminar on Pro-Bono Lawyers and Certificate Awarding Ceremony at Supreme Court Bar Auditorium this afternoon.
Chaired by PBLA chairman and senior jurist Dr Bashir Ahmed, the function was also attended by Prof Dr Md Rahmat Ullah and chairman of legal education committee of Bangladesh Bar Council Advocate Nazibullah Hiru, among others.
Pro-Bono Lawyers and Activists of Bangladesh (PBLA) and Human Rights Lawyers and Securing Environment of Bangladesh (HRLE) organized the programme to recognize lawyers, who made excellent contributions in the field of pro bono.
The law minister also urged all to strengthening the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at all the bars of the courts across the country including Supreme Court Bar Association.
