The Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed toady said the election to Dhaka North City Corporation
(DNCC) by-polls and councilors for both DNCC and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) was held in free, fair and peaceful manner.
“We initially estimated that turnout of voters in the election was 50 per
cent,” he said while speaking at a post-poll press conference at the
Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar here.
“Election to both city corporations were held peacefully as no violent
incident took place during the poll time. Even voting was not suspended at
any polling centre,” the Secretary said.
The National Voter Day will be observed across the country for the first
time, the EC secretary said, adding the government took various programmes to
mark the day in a befitting manner.
