A two-week Bangladesh-India joint military training exercise will begin at Bangabandhu Senanibas (BBS) Cantonment, Tangail from Saturday.
The Indian army contingent comprising 170 personnel will arrive at Hazrat
Shahjalal International Airport here tomorrow by an Indian Air Force special
aircraft to participate in the exercise titled ‘SAMPRITI-8’ from March 02 to
15, a press release of Indian High Commission here said today.
This is the 8th edition of the joint training exercise named ‘Sampriti’
that was first held in Assam, India in 2011 and since then both the countries
have been hosting the exercise alternatively.
The exercise is aimed to strengthen and broaden the aspects of
interoperability and cooperation between Bangladesh and Indian Army and
enrich from each other’s experience while carrying out counter insurgency or
counter terrorism operations, said the release.
The holding of such joint exercises is symbolic of the strong defence cooperation between the two countries, it said. The Indian Army contingent will leave the country on March 16 after completion of the exercise.
