Five envoys present credentials to President

High commissioner of India, ambassadors of Italy, Tanzania, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan to Bangladesh separately presented their credentials to President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.
The envoys are: Enrico Nunziata of Italy, Baraka Haran Luvanda of Tanzania, Ashraf Farhad Shikhaliyev of Azerbaijan and Farhod Arziev of Uzbekistan, and High Commissioner of India Riva Ganguly Das.
Welcoming the envoys, President Hamid said the foreign policy attaches importance to bilateral and friendly relations with all, President’s Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin told BSS.
Bangladesh always gives priority to the expansion of the bilateral relations in the field of trade, commerce and investment, the President said, hoping that the bilateral relations with these countries will further be expanded during their assignments here.
Terming Bangladesh a country of huge potentials, Abdul Hamid stressed on availing all possibilities in the respective interest of their countries and Bangladesh to bolster businesses and trade ties.
During the meeting with Indian high commissioner, the head of the state expressed his gratefulness to the people and the government of India for their heartfelt support in 1971 Liberation War.
“The existing relations with India are excellent . . . the ties in different sectors, including commerce and investment, are increasing day by day,” the President said.
Referring to connectivity in road-water-airways between Bangladesh and India, he said this has helped to enhance relations between the peoples of the two neighbouring countries strengthening the bilateral-base.
Meanwhile, during the meeting with the ambassador of Italy, the President said Bangladesh has a lot of scopes for investment and urged Italy to explore the potentials here.
Abdul Hamid mentioned the existing excellent relations between the two countries and hoped that the relations would reach a new height in days to come. The envoys sought all-out cooperation of the President in discharging their respective duties in Bangladesh.
Lauding the tremendous development of Bangladesh in various sectors especially in socio-economic, communication and infrastructural ones, they assured of providing necessary supports for Bangladesh from their respective countries’ positions.
Secretaries concerned to the President and high officials of foreign ministry were present.
Earlier, on their arrival at Bangabhaban, a smartly turned-out contingent of the horse-mounted President Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the envoys guards of honour as part of the ceremony.
