Focusing on the importance of intensifying the scout movement across the country, President M Abdul Hamid today asked scouts to stand against drug abuse, terrorism and militancy.
“Stand against narcotics, terrorism and militancy . . . Always uphold the spirit of freedom struggle, patriotism and duty towards mankind,” the President told the scouts while inaugurating the 10th Bangladesh and 3rd SANSO (South Asian Association of National Scout Organisation) Scout Jamboree-2019 at the National Scout Training Center at Mouchak here this afternoon.
Abdul Hamid, also the chief scout, said: “You will lead the nation tomorrow. You will build a hunger and poverty-free, developed and rich Bangladesh as dreamt by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”
Noting that the scout movement is very encouraging to save teenagers and youths from the poison-gas of narcotics, fanaticism, communalism, terrorism and militancy, he said, adding that only scouts can help build the new generation as modern, progressive and creative ones.
Abdul Hamid urged all, including guardians and scout leaders, to gear up scout movements for various development programmes simultaneously to build skilled leaderships through scouting.
The head of the state praised the role of the scouts in social development, disaster management and other voluntary activities during any catastrophe, like the recent Chawkbazar fire and maintaining traffic movement.
As a patriotic and voluntary organization, he hoped that the scouts would jointly take forward the country towards the socio-economic development in line with the “Vision -2021” and “Vision 2041” designed by the present government.
President Hamid categorically urged the scouts to build themselves as worthy and skilled citizens of the country. “Deliver good for the people and help masses to involve in various welfare-oriented activities”, he added.
The chief scout, later, inaugurated the six-day camping here on the outskirts of the capital, with around 1200 scouts, including 400 from abroad, taking part in different activities.
President of Bangladesh Scouts and Principal Coordinator on the SDG Affairs Md Abul Kalam Azad, Bangladesh Scouts Chief National Commissioner and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Commissioner Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan, Secretary General of World Organization of Scout Movement Ahmed Alhemdawi and National Commissioner (Organization) Akhteruzzaman Khan Kabir also spoke at the function.
