The High Court (HC) today ordered the authorities concerned to deploy police within seven days in major mango orchards across the country including Rajshahi to prevent use of toxic chemicals in mangoes.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order after holding hearing on the writ filed in this regard.
“The court has asked Rajshahi divisional commissioner, deputy inspector general of police of Rajshahi range to comply with the order. The court has also asked to form monitoring team to monitor fruit markets and godowns so that none can ripen green mangoes using chemicals. The court also asked the IGP, managing director of BSTI, director general of RAB, BSTI director (chemical testing wing) to comply with the order and submit a report on this within 30 days,” advocate Manjil Morshad, who moved the writ, told newsmen.
Industries secretary, home secretary, food secretary, IGP, BSTI managing director, RAB DG, BSTI director (chemical testing wing), Rajshahi divisional commissioner, DIG Rajshahi Range and NBR chairman were made respondents to the writ.
