India has highly acclaimed the “zero tolerance” policy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina against any sorts of terrorism and religious extremism describing Bangladesh as a role model for maintaining religious harmony.
“The expert should visit Bangladesh to witness the religious harmony under which Bangladeshi people are living together with peace,” said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
The Indian premier’s comment came when Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan paid a courtesy call on him at his official residence. Mr Khan arrived in Delhi on Tuesday to attend the 7th Bangladesh-India home minister level talks held here On Wednesday.
During the meeting, Modi congratulated Sheikh Hasina as she became Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the three consecutive terms and appreciated Bangladesh’s policy of not allowing use of its territory by extremists and insurgents for perpetrating violence in other countries including India.
When Rohingya issue came in discussion, the Indian premier told the home minister that India had already raised the issue with the Myanmar authority as it (India) think that the crisis must be solved.
He assured the Bangladesh minister to discuss the matter again with Myanmar aimed at ensuring smooth and peaceful repatriation of the Rohingya people.
About border management issue, the Indian premier assured Asaduzzaman that the two countries would work together for a secured and effective border by combating drug smuggling and cross-border terrorism.
He also opined that BIMSTEC could play a crucial role for maintaining peace and development in the region.
During the meeting, Mr Modi expressed his country’s eagerness to be a partner of the programmes undertaken by Bangladesh government to observe the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali, Home Secretary (Public Safety division) Mostafa Kamal Uddin, Secretary (Protection Division) Mohammad Shahiduzzaman and Inspector of Police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwari were present during the meeting.
