Farmers here are passing busy time with cultivating Aman paddy as heavy rain prompted the growers to come down to the field for farming the paddy, creating a ray of hope in their mind to produce huge yield this season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said farmers are now preparing land and raising Aman seeds in seedbeds as the DAE is advising them on various issues including modern-farming methods to fulfill the production target.
DAE fixed a target to produce over 2.4 lakh tonnes of Transplanted Aman (T- Aman) rice from 92,807 hectares of land in nine upazilas of the district and two metropolitan thanas of the city, they said. While talking to BSS, farmers expected that the T-Aman cultivation would be completed within next few days.
The DAE, Bangladesh Rice Research Institute and other organisations are helping them hit the production target by producing bumper yield this year, they said. DAE Deputy Director Pankaj Kanti Majumder said “We achieved hundred per cent success last year, and hoped that the target will also exceed this season.”
He said field level agriculture officials have been directed to provide necessary assistance and latest technologies to the farmers to ensure successful cultivation of T-Aman in the district.
