Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today filed three separate cases against contractor SM Golam Kibria Shamim, who used to identify himself as a Jubo League leader, RAB and police sources said.
“Three separate cases – under narcotics, money laundering prevention, and arms acts – were filed against GK Shamim with Gulshan police station today,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan police Md Kamruzzaman told BSS.
Earlier, the anti-crime elite force arrested Shamim and his seven bodyguards raiding his Gulshan Niketon residence and office on Friday evening.
After quizzing Shamim, who later was expelled from Jubo League for his alleged involvement in different unlawful, including extortion and possessing illegal firearms, was handed over to police at about 3 pm today.
RAB’s magistrate Sarwar Alam told journalists that Shamim was arrested on the basis of specific allegation over manipulating of tenders and extortions in the neighbourhoods of Sabujbagh, Bashabo and Motijheel areas in the capital.
RAB seized about Tk 2 crore in cash, Tk 1.75 crore worth of fixed-deposit receipt or FDR savings, foreign currencies, alcohol and firearms during the raid at his business office in Dhaka’s Niketon.
