Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debobrato Biswas granted a five-day remand in a case filed with Airport Police Station while Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari granted 10 days’ remand in two cases filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Staton. On February 24, Papiya and her husband were placed on a 15-day remand in the three cases related to illegal arms, drugs and counterfeit notes.
Law enforcers on Wednesday produced the couple before the courts on completion of their remand period and sought 30 days’ fresh remand.
On February 22, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested them from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The elite force also recovered counterfeit notes, foreign currencies, and around Tk 2.5 lakh from their possessions.
The RAB men also raided Papiya’s Indira Road flat and recovered a foreign pistol, two magazines, 20 bullets, five bottles foreign liquor, Tk 58.41 lakh in cash, five passports, three cheques, some foreign currencies and 10 ATM cards of different banks.
