123 citizens of EU countries leave Dhaka by special flight

Online Desk : One hundred twenty-three citizens of European Union (EU) countries including Germany left Dhaka on Friday amid novel coronavirus outbreak in Bangladesh. They left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka by a chartered flight of Germany early Friday afternon.

Airport’s director Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul-Ahsan said 123 EU citizens left Dhaka by a German chartered flight at about 1:45pm.

On the other hand, the United States has planned to fly its citizens by a third special flight from Bangladesh on April 13 next.

It is also learned that preparation is going on to charter a special flight for the Australian citizens who are willing to leave Bangladesh.

Earlier on Monday, 178 Russian citizens left Dhaka by a special flight, while 325 citizens of Japan left for their country by a Japan Embassy’s chartered flight last week.

Besides, 591 American citizens left Dhaka by two special Qatar Airways flights.

Moreover, 225 Malaysian citizens left Dhaka for Kuala Lumpur by a special flight of Malaysian Airlines, and 139 citizens of Bhutan by a Druk Air flight under their government’s special arrangements.

In order to contain coronavirus pandemic, Bangladesh imposed restrictions on the arrival of the citizens from Europe, except the United Kingdom on March 16 last. Later on March 21, the Bangladesh government imposed restrictions on the arrival of all flights from India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Turkey, Malaysia, Oman and Singapore.

With the announcements, Biman Bangladesh Airlines cancelled all its flights to those countries.
