Deceased Jewel Ahmed Sabuj was a resident of Podipara area in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district. He lived in a rented house of Farhad in Harinachala area under the police station.
RAB-1 Company Commander Abdullah AL Mamun said Sabuj alongwith his associate Sagor abducted the landlord Farhad’s minor son Alif Hossain on April 29 and sought Tk 20 lakh ransom.
However, the RAB detained Sagor from Pubail area on Saturday evening.
According to information gleaned from him, the elite force members recovered the body of Alif from a warehouse on the second floor of the house on Saturday night, RAB official Abdullah said.
On information that Sabuj were staying at a slum in Kashimpur Jailkhana Road area, a RAB team conducted a drive there to arrest him. During the drive, Sabuj and his cohorts opened fire on the RAB team, forcing them to fire back that led to a gunfight.
After the gunfight, the RAB men recovered the bullet-hit body of Sabuj from the scene while others managed to escape the place, said Abdullah. However, the RAB recovered a foreign made pistol and bullets from the spot, he added.
