Online Desk ; The High Court has issued an injunction till August 10 on the decision of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) on raising water price by 25 percent.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim’s virtual HC bench passed the order on Monday after hearing on a writ petition.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood on behalf of DhakaWASA while Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder represented the state. Adv Md Tanvir Ahmed filed the writ with the HC on June 15 challenging the decision of hiking Dhaka WASA water price.
Dhaka WASA, in a decision in February last, raised 25 percent water price for residential and commercial users in Dhaka and Chattogram and made it effective from April 1.
Later, in an order it said the price of per unit (1,000 litres) of water supplied to the residential users rose by Tk 14.46 from Tk 11.57 while Tk 40 from Tk 37.04 for commercial users.
