The secretary came up with the remarks while attending an online meeting with National Technical Advisory Committee at the ministry.
The countries where per capita income is below $ 4000 will get free vaccines, he said. “Bangladesh will get it free as here per capita income is near $2000.”
The government has plans to distribute the vaccine gradually among 80 percent of population after its arrival, Mannan said, adding that “At the same time government will take proper initiative to bring the vaccines and distribute it.”
The government has 3 lakh Covid-19 test kits currently and more are being imported, he said adding that “Next one month can be easily covered with this if 10,000 tests are done each day.”
“In between this time hopefully we will be able to import more testing kits so there is no crisis over tests in country.”, he said.
Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) who also attended the meeting, said “We have to work jointly by utilizing the lessons learnt from the past.”
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital Vice Chancellor Dr Kanak Kanti Barua noted the number of testing has gradually decreased, and said the number of test should be increased to fight against the virus.
