Online Desk : The High Court on Wednesday refused the bail prayer of Destiny group chairman Mohammad Hossain and managing director Md Rafiqul Amin and asked how come the MD has long been receiving treatment at hospital.
The HC also asked the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to informed the matter to it.
The virtual bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder came up with the order after hearing the bail petitions of Mohammad Hossain and Rafiqul Amin in two money laundering cases.
Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru and Barrister Mainul Hossain stood for the accused while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan for Anti-Corruption Commission and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
The Deputy Attorney General told media that the state and the ACC submitted a newspaper before the HC. The newspaper published reports on how a number of top accused in several cases including the destiny MD have been receiving treatment in hospitals for long, he added.
After hearing all sides, the HC rejected their bail petitions, he said.
The ACC filed the case at Kalabagan Police Station accusing 22 people on July 31, 2012.
According to the case statement, Destiny Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited and Destiny Tree Plantation laundered Tk 1,178.61 crore from 2009 to 2013.
Mohammad Hossain and Rafiqul Amin are behind the bars since October 11, 2012, and have sought bail on several occasions, but their petitions have been rejected.
