Woes of 32,342 flood-hit families prolong in Bogura

Online Desk : Woes of about 32,342 flood-hit families in Bogura are prolonging as the water levels in the Jamuna and Bangali rivers are rising day by day.

A total of 1.25 lakh people of Sariakandi, Sonatala and Dhunat upazilas have become marooned due to the persistent rains for last few days and onrush of water from the upstream hilly areas in Indian states of Assam to the downstream districts in Bangladesh.

Water development Board executive engineer Mahbubur Rahman said the water level of the Jamuna River was 100cm above the danger level at Sariakandi point at 3.00pm on Thursday while it was 83cm on Wednesday.

Besides, the water level of Bangali River was flowing 1cm below the danger level at 12.00pm.

Flood-hit people have taken shelter in highlands and flood control embankment areas, few of them are under the open sky and suffering from heavy rains.

The flood has damaged 8,831 hectares of cultivated lands in the district.

District administration has distributed 400 metric tons of rice, 300 packets dry food, Tk 2 lakh of baby foods and Tk 2 lakh of dry food.
