Acting on information that smugglers would smuggle hilsa to India by boat from Sarakghat Padmarchar area, a patrol team of BGB Alaipur border outposts (BOP) conducted a drive at about 8.00pm and seized 126 kilograms of hilsa, said BGB Rajshahi-1 battalion commander Lt Cl Ferdous Ziauddin Mahmud.
Smugglers fled the scene sensing presence of the border guards, he added.
The seized hilsa was later handed over to different educational institutions including poor people.
