Allama Shafi has passed away at Asgar Ali Hospital in the capital Friday evening. He was a veteran Qaumi Alem of the country holding the post of Muhtamim (Director General) of Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Muinul Islam Hathazari Madrassah in Chattogram.
After his voluntary resignation on Thursday, the board of directors of Hathazari Madrasa (Majlis Shura Committee) appointed him as the advisor of the madrasa (Sadar-e-Muhtamim).
On the same day, Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi fell ill in the face of student protests. After being relieved from duties at the madrasa, he was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) by a fire service ambulance around 12:00 am on Thursday.
Allama Shafi, who was in the ICU of CMCH, was airlifted to Dhaka and admitted to Asgar Ali Hospital on Friday evening. He died there while undergoing treatment.
