The decision was taken at a preparatory meeting at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of DU on Sunday, taking the current coronavirus pandemic into consideration.
The meeting also decided that no one would be allowed to enter DU campus without wearing masks on the Amar Ekushey.
DU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, Treasurer Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, DU senate and syndicate members, registrar, DU Teachers’ Association (DUTA) president and general secretary, dean of different faculties, provosts of different halls, chairmen of different departments, proctors, representatives of the ministries concerned, heads of offices and representatives of Officers’ and Employees’ Associations of DU were also present in the meeting with DU vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
The meeting also decided to observe Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day-2021 following the health guidelines.
Everyone will come to the Central Shaheed Minar wearing a mandatory mask and no one will be allowed to enter the Dhaka University campus without masks.
In addition, maintaining social distancing and proper hygiene, a maximum of five representatives from each organisation and a maximum of two persons at the individual level can lay wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.
To observe the glorious day, DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman emphasised maintaining proper hygiene rules due to the Covid-19 emergency.
“This year, there is a need to create widespread awareness to avoid public gatherings in this changed situation,” he said.
He also sought full cooperation of all concerned for smooth and successful holding of all programmes taken on the occasion of Amar Ekushey.
Meanwhile, in order to ensure smooth holding of the programmes of Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day, a central committee was formed with Law Faculty dean and DUTA President Prof Md Rahmat Ullah as the coordinator, DUTA Vice-President Prof Dr Sabita Rizwana Rahman and General Secretary Prof Md Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan as joint-coordinators and Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani as member-secretary.
Apart from the Central Coordinating Committee, various sub-committees were formed at the meeting to observe the Amar Ekushey smoothly and peacefully.
