Online desk : A court in Tangail on Tuesday sentenced two persons to jail until death and two others to ten-year imprisonment for abducting and murdering a child in 2013.
The court also fined, the two persons jailed until death taka one lakh each, in default.
Khaleda Yasmin, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Tangail, delivered the verdict, reports BSS.
The convicts are Jahangir Hossain, 30, son of Shahjahan of Rampur area of Ghatail upazila and Gautam Chandra Arya, 30, son of Hiralal Arya of Kamakha Bari area of Gopalpur upazila.
The other two accused sentenced to 10 years in prison are – Hasan Ali, 17, son of Abdul Halim of Niamatpur Kazipur area of Ghatail upazila and Sohel, 17, son of Fazlul Haque of Ruhuli Paschim Para area of Bhunapur upazila.
According to the case, APP Shahanshah Mintu, a regular lawyer for the state said Masud Rana Soyan, granddaughter of Majeda Begum of Ruhuli village in Bhunapur upazila went to Matikata Government Primary School on September 30, 2013 at around 10:30 am.
The convicts abducted the child on a motorcycle from the spot. The accused later demanded Taka 5 lakh as ransom from the child’s family. The convicts killed the child, as they failed to get the ransom money,
Soon after the incident, on October 3, 2013, the child’s grandmother Majeda Begum filed a case with the Bhunapur Police Station.
Police submitted charge-sheet against the accused upon completion of the investigation.
After examining the records and witnesses, the judge delivered the verdict this noon.
