Awami League candidates have won Shibganj and Nandigram municipal elections, while BNP candidates Gabtali and Kahalu, Awami League-Rebel (Independent) candidate won in Dhunat municipality.
Among those, AL-nominated Towhidur Rahman Manik won the mayoral polls for the second time in Shibganj Pourasava. He got 12,398 votes contesting with ‘Boat’ symbol, while his nearest rival BNP-backed Motiar Rahman Matin bagged 2,366 votes contesting with ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol.
AL-Rebel candidate AGM Badsha won the Dhunat Pourasava election for the third time. He obtained 3,902 votes, while his nearest rival AL candidate TIM Nurunnabi Tarik got 3,155 votes contesting with ‘Boat’ symbol.
BNP-nominated candidate Alhaj Abdul Mannan has unofficially been elected as mayor in Kahalu Pourasava receiving 5,321 votes. His closest rival AL-backed candidate Alhaj Helal Uddin Kabiraj secured 4,290 votes.
AL-nominated candidate Anisar Rahman has won in the Nandigram Pourasava. He got 7,668 votes contesting with ‘Boat’ symbol. His nearest rival was BNP candidate Sushanta Kumar Shanto. He got 5,188 votes contesting with ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol.
BNP-supported Saiful Islam has become mayor again in Gabtoli Pourasava. He bagged 6,959 votes contesting with ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol. His nearest rival was AL-backed Mominul Huq Shilu, who got 5,155 votes contesting with ‘Boat’ symbol.
