Online Desk : Another batch of some 3,000 Rohingyas are going to Bhasan Char at Hatiya upazila in Noakhali district, under the 4th phase of Rohingya relocation, from Teknaf-Ukhiya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.
The Rohingyas will be shifted to Bhasan Char on Sunday and Monday.
Some 2,000 Rohingyas and their belongings were brought to the transit point of Ukhiya Degree College ground by 20 buses and trucks from Balukhali of Ukhiya, Mochni of Teknaf, Jadimora Camp on Saturday. The remaining 1,000 Rohingyas will be taken there in the evening.
They will be taken to Chattogram first and then to Bhasan Char by the sea on Sunday.
According to camp sources, Rohingyas are becoming more and more interested in going to Bhasan Char.
Meanwhile, those who had voluntarily submitted the list to the camp in-charge are going to Bhasan Char on Sunday and Monday. Law enforcing agencies and the local administration are providing security and necessary assistance in this regard.
Earlier, about 11,000 Rohingya refugees were relocated to Bhasan Char under three phases. Besides, 306 Rohingyas who failed to enter Malaysia illegally by sea have been rescued from the sea and sent there.
Hamidul Huque Chowdhury, chairman of the Rohingya Protyabason and Sangram Committee and chairman of the Ukhiya Upazila, said the target was to relocate 1,00,000 Rohingyas from 34 camps in Ukhiya-Teknaf to Bhasan Char. Another batch of Rohingyas is being prepared for relocating to Bhasan Char under the fifth phase by the last week of February.
