online Desk : Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Shafiqul Islam has said people without face masks will not be allowed to go to Central Shaheed Minar to pay homage to the Language Movement martyrs on February 21.
He was talking to journalists after visiting and witnessing the security arrangements at Central Shaheed Minar on Thursday afternoon.
The DMP Commissioner said more than five persons in a group and two persons at individual levels will be allowed to enter the Central Shaheed Minar.
He said the activities at Central Shaheed Minar will constantly be monitored by CCTV cameras on February 21 from the DMP Control Room. There will be three-tier security steps at the Shaheed Minar and surrounding areas.
“We’re going to observe the International Mother Language Day this year under special circumstances. Vaccination has been going on amid coronavirus pandemic. So, we request maximum five people at the political level and two people at individual level to visit the Central Shaheed Minar on the 21st February. More than these numbers will not be allowed, and visitors must wear masks,” he said.
Shafiqul Islam said apart from police, the bomb disposal unit, and SWAT will remain stand-by.
Head of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit Monirul Islam, Detective Branch chief AKM Hafiz Akhter, Additional Commissioner (Crime) Krishnapada Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division Sajjadur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department Iftekharul Islam, and other senior police officials were present.
