Firefighters, army personnel, Bangladesh Navy, BGB, Bangladesh Air Force jointly are working to douse the flame around 2pm on Tuesday.
No casualties were reported yet.
Fire Service and Civil defence’s director general Brig Gen Md Main Uddin said, “Three reasons–water shortage, curious crowd and wind behind the delay in controlling the fire.”
He said this at a press briefing at Fire Service Headquarters near Bangabazar around 1:20pm.
“It takes one more hour to douse the flame as we are struggling due to water shortage, huge crowd and wind.”
He said, “The market in Bangabazar where the fire broke out was risky. On April 10, 2019, this market was in the risk list. We informed them several times that the building is risky.”
Eight fire men were injured while trying to douse the blaze. Of them, two are in critical state. A five-member probe body has been formed to find out the reason behind the fire, Brig Gen Main Uddin added.
